Holmes comet 19 days after the outburst
The night November 10/11 was really crazy. The freezing rain and snowfall alternated periods of
excellent clear sky with perfect observing conditions. Several times, I had to cover the equipment with my
jacket and wait for the weather turning fair. Finally about midnight of the local time a longer
period of clear sky enabled me to take an unbroken sequence of 51 images. I used my most favoured optics
- Rubinar 5.6/500mm. Before the perfect weather came, I took several images on
which I did not realize that even though the sky looked clear, the strong wind was bringing some snow flakes
which were scattering the light of bright stars. I excluded these images from processing. Later, I browsed
these images again and I found out that they have a fanciful beauty. Therefore, I made
another version of the image presented on this page
which is not made from perfect images only but also from images with scattered light caused by snow
flakes.
