All images of the McNaught comet made on the January 25/26 night were taken from the pass over the
Laguna Schmoll on the way to Refugio Jakob in Nahuel
Huapi area (Patagonia). The observing conditions were extremely rough - very strong wind, low
temperature and a lot of fast moving clouds. Before the daybreak, there was a short interval of clear
sky. At that time the observer and camera batteries were nearly frozen (fortunately both only
nearly). This first image was taken in a small hole in quickly moving clouds. It was really a big
problem to press the camera release at the correct time because I used the self-timer and I had to
extrapolate the positions of clouds.
