The third contact

The most important thing which is absolutely necessary for total solar eclipse observing is good
luck. A single cloud on a clear sky may ruin everything. It was twice truthful for 2002 eclipse in
South Africa. December is, from the point of weather, a very bad month. Many expeditions were
unsuccessful. The Slovak expedition organized by Vojtech Rušin had really an enormous luck. They took
21 images in unstable weather and only the last one was significantly influenced by clouds. This last
picture I excluded from processing at first (see this picture).
This last picture shows Baily's beads at the third contact and coming clouds. It is not of big
scientific value but it is nice and therefore I used this picture to create picture of the 2002 total
eclipse which you can see on this page.

| Processing | Totaly 21 images were used for image creation, 16 images were taken with 10/1000 mm and 5 images with 8/500 mm lens. Images were aligned by means of phase correlation technique and then processed using Corona 3.0 software. Final processing was done by ACC 6.0 image analyser.
