Corona up to 9 solar radii and comet
This image shows the extend and shape of the solar corona in the middle of unusually long and deep solar
activity minimum.
About 715 images taken with two cameras were used for the creation of this eclipse image. 52 images were
taken during the eclipse, all others were calibration images (dark frames, flat-field images) taken
immediately after the eclipse. 30 eclipse images were taken with Canon EOS 1D Mark III equiped with
400 mm lens, which is equivalent to 520 mm lens for a full-frame camera. 22 images were taken
with Canon EOS 350D equipped with Maksutov-Cassegrain of 500 mm focal length, which is equivalent
to 800 mm for a full-frame camera. The position of the Moon represents the situation 62 seconds
after the second contact i. e. 11:04:37 UT (18:04:37 local time).
Comet C/2008 O1 (SOHO) is visible in this image like in
our more wide-angle 200 mm lens image.

Eclipse images calibrated by means of dark frames and flat-fields, aligned by means of phase correlation, composed by means of LDIC 5.0 software, processed using Corona 4.1 in order to visualize coronal structures. Final processing was done using ACC 6.1 software. Image processing by Miloslav Druckmüller |

Note | The graph above the table shows the average values of the relative number of sunspots in which the red line indicates the time of 2008 eclipse. The data from the World Data Center for the sunspot index, (Solar Influences Data Analysis Center, the Royal Observatory of Belgium) were used. |
Orientation | Image must be rotated 10.5° clockwise to achieve standard orientation i. e. North up. |
